The Study of Antioxidants

Antioxidants are compounds that can prevent or inhibit the occurring of oxidation processes that are harmful to the body for triggering free radical cells. These uncontrolled free radical cells are causing specific diseases, usually cancer. Because it can prevent and fight disease, antioxidants are claimed can extend life. Not only that, antioxidants are also believed can increase sexual ability and many other benefits.

But now, researchers from Kansas State University, United States proved that high dose of antioxidants could be harmful for the body. Antioxidants only work when there is a pro-oxidant compounds (trigger of the oxidation process) in the body. When the dose of antioxidants and pro-oxidant is imbalance or the level of antioxidant is high while the level of pro-oxidant is low, then the body will form the pro-oxidant compounds to balance with antioxidant levels, and this thing will cause free radical cells can’t be repair.

Nutritionist claims that antioxidant as a super food that can eliminate almost any disease, especially cancer. But be careful, an overdose of antioxidants precisely can trigger the pro-oxidant compounds.

Many people believe that by eating lots of antioxidants, also has many benefits for the body. But it was wrong, high doses of antioxidants in fact produced the opposite function, which are causing weakened muscles, shortness of breath, oxygen circulation in the blood is inhibited and even accelerated the aging process.
